Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Wendfar. It is written to be read: what you can expect from us, what we ask of you, and what happens with money and content.
Effective 17 September 2026
The short version
- You must be 18 or over. Wendfar is fiction for adults.
- What you write is yours, and nobody reads your play. We take only the technical licence a computer needs to store your words and show them back to you, and we never train AI models on them.
- Publishing is opt-in and human-reviewed. Others import copies, and those copies stay with them.
- Plans renew monthly until you cancel. Credits have no cash value, never expire and are never taken away by a cancellation or downgrade.
- Purchases are final except where the law says otherwise; genuine mistakes are refunded.
- The Content Policy applies to everything you write, private or public. Sexual content involving minors, real or fictional, ends an account immediately; everything else is enforced in proportion.
- The law of England and Wales applies, and disputes go to its courts. No arbitration clause.
This summary is for orientation only. The full text below is what applies.
01This agreement
These Terms of Service are a contract between you and Wendfar (“Wendfar”, “we”, “us”), a company registered in the United Kingdom. They cover the Wendfar website and app, everything you make or play there, and every plan or credit you buy. By creating an account or using Wendfar you agree to them.
Two other documents are part of this agreement: the Privacy Policy, which says what we do with your data, and the Content Policy, which sets the lines for what can be written privately and what can be published. If you do not agree with any of the three, do not use Wendfar.
02Who can use Wendfar
Wendfar is for adults. Fiction on Wendfar can include violence, horror and mature themes, as adult fiction does. To hold an account you must be at least 18 years old and old enough to enter a binding contract where you live. By creating an account you confirm that you are. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it and delete its data.
You may not use Wendfar if we have previously banned you, or if the law where you live forbids you from using a service like this.
03Your account
- Sign-in is handled by a third-party sign-in provider. Keep your credentials to yourself: everything done from your account is treated as done by you. Tell us straight away at [email protected] if you think someone else has got in.
- One person, one account. Do not share, sell or lend an account, and do not create a second one to get around a limit, a ban or the free plan’s allowance.
- Keep the email on your account current. It is how we reach you about billing and about these terms.
- You can close your account at any time by asking us at [email protected] or through a support ticket. What happens to your data then is set out in the Privacy Policy.
04What Wendfar is, and is not
Wendfar is an interactive fiction service. You type what your character does or says and an AI narrator writes what happens next, drawing on the world, the cards and the memories attached to your session. The narrators are large language models run by third-party providers; we choose, prompt and combine them.
- Everything the narrator writes is fiction. It is generated on the spot, it can be inconsistent, and it can be wrong about the real world. Do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial, safety or any other advice.
- Output is not unique. Similar prompts produce similar prose for other players. We cannot promise that anything the narrator writes for you has never been written for anyone else.
- Narrators change. The models on offer, their names, their credit costs and their behaviour will change over time as providers update or retire them. We may add, alter or remove a narrator at any time.
- Memory is best-effort. Wendfar records memories as you play and shows you what it used for each turn, but no AI remembers everything. You can edit, pin or discard memories yourself.
05Your content and who owns it
Your input is yours. Everything you write into Wendfar, from a single action to an entire world with its cards, lore and art (“your content”), stays yours. We claim no ownership of it.
Narrator output is yours to use. As between you and us, you may keep, copy, adapt and publish the prose the narrator writes in your sessions, subject to the rights of others and to the note above that similar output may exist elsewhere. We make no promise that AI-generated text is protected by copyright in your country.
Nobody reads your play. Your sessions are stored so that you can come back to them, and they are not read by our staff. The only times a person at Wendfar will open a session are the ones set out in the Privacy Policy: a report that the Content Policy was broken, a legal requirement, or you asking us to look at a specific session.
The technical licence. For Wendfar to work, a computer has to hold your words, pass them to the model that writes the next turn, turn them into memories, and show them back to you. So you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process and transmit your content for exactly those purposes: operating and securing the service, and supporting you when you ask. It is a licence to run software on your behalf, not to look at what you write. It does not let us train AI models on your content, sell it, or show your private play to anyone. It ends when your content is deleted, except for copies in routine backups, which expire on their own schedule, and anything you have published, which is covered next.
Publishing grants more. When you submit a world or card to Discover and we approve it, you additionally grant us and every Wendfar player a licence to view it, to import a copy of it into their own library and worlds, to edit that copy and to play with it, for as long as they keep it. See the next section.
You are responsible for your content. You confirm that you have the right to use everything you upload or write, that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights, and that it follows the Content Policy.
Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions about Wendfar, we may use them without owing you anything. Your stories are not feedback.
06Publishing, Discover and imports
Everything you make is private by default. Publishing is a choice you make per world or card, and nothing goes public until a person on our team has reviewed and approved it. We may decline anything for any reason, and we may take approved content down later if it turns out to breach the Content Policy or the law.
- An approved item appears on Discover as a frozen copy. Editing your own working copy afterwards does not change the public one until you resubmit it and it is approved again.
- When another player imports your published item, they receive their own independent copy. Unpublishing or deleting your original does not remove the copies other players already hold, and the memories they build on those copies never travel back to you.
- Imports are for playing on Wendfar. You may not scrape, export or republish other players’ published content elsewhere without their permission.
07What you may not do
The Content Policy sets the lines for what you can write. On top of that, you agree not to:
- use Wendfar for anything unlawful, or to plan or encourage real harm to a real person;
- create, request or publish sexual content involving anyone under 18, real or fictional, in any form, anywhere on Wendfar;
- put another real person into your content without their consent in a sexual, abusive or defamatory way, or post anyone’s private information;
- access Wendfar with bots, scripts or automation, scrape it, or send requests at a rate no person would;
- probe, reverse-engineer or extract our prompts, memory system or other internals, or try to get past a limit, filter or access control;
- use narrator output to train, fine-tune or distil another AI model, or resell access to Wendfar;
- impersonate us or anyone else, or present narrator output as written by a human when it matters;
- abuse the support, report or publishing systems, or upload malicious files.
Wendfar has rate ceilings on the actions that cost us money. They are set far above a human’s pace and exist to stop scripts; hitting one repeatedly is evidence of automation.
08Plans and payment
Free plan. A free account gets a daily allowance of turns on the standard narrator, which resets each day (UTC). We may change the allowance, and we may withdraw the free plan, at any time.
Paid plans. Paid plans are monthly subscriptions handled by our payment provider. Each plan gives unlimited turns on the standard narrator, a monthly grant of credits for the premium narrators, and deeper memory. The current plans, prices and allowances are always on the Plans page; that page, not this document, is where the numbers live.
- Renewal. Your plan renews automatically every month on the day you first subscribed, and our payment provider charges the payment method on file, until you cancel.
- Upgrades take effect immediately. You pay the full price difference between the two plans and receive the full difference in credits; your renewal date does not move.
- Downgrades and cancellations take effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep your current plan until then.
- Fair use. “Unlimited” standard turns means unlimited for a person playing. An account whose use is far beyond that may be paused for review; we will contact you before anything else happens.
- Prices can change. We will tell you at least 30 days before a change to the price of a plan you are on. If you do not want to pay the new price, cancel before it takes effect.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, your plan lapses to the free plan once the payment provider’s retries are exhausted. Your credits stay on your account.
- Tax. Prices are shown in US dollars and include any tax we are required to collect unless the checkout says otherwise.
09Credits
Credits are the unit the premium narrators run on. Each narrator has a cost per turn shown beside its name, and a turn deducts that cost when it is generated. Credits come from your plan’s monthly grant, from credit packs you buy outright, or occasionally from us.
- Credits are not money. They have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for cash, cannot be transferred to another account, and are a limited licence to use premium narrators, not property.
- Credits stay yours. Credits do not expire while your account exists. Unused credits roll over month to month with no cap. Cancelling or downgrading a plan does not remove them, and you can spend them on any narrator from the free plan.
- Charges are per turn generated. A turn you stop part-way is still a turn and is charged. A turn that fails and produces nothing is not charged; the credits return to your balance automatically. Regenerating a reply and asking the game master a question each cost a turn.
- Costs can change. Because narrators are run by third-party providers whose prices move, the credit cost of a narrator may change. The cost you see when you start a turn is the cost you pay for it.
- Forfeiture. Credits are forfeited only if we close your account for a serious breach of these terms or the Content Policy, or if you ask us to close your account. Nothing else takes them from you.
- Mistakes and fraud. If credits reach an account by error, chargeback or fraud, we may reverse them.
10Cancellation and refunds
You can cancel a plan at any time from the Plans page, which opens the billing portal. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the period you have paid for runs to its end.
Because plans and credit packs are digital services delivered as soon as you buy them, payments are final and we do not refund unused time in a billing period, nor credits already granted, except where the law requires it. If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom or the European Union, you may have a legal right to cancel within 14 days of a purchase; by buying, you ask us to start supplying the service immediately and accept that, if you exercise that right, we may deduct an amount for what you used before cancelling. Nothing in these terms takes away rights the law gives you that cannot be excluded.
If something went wrong with a purchase, write to [email protected] and we will look at it properly. Duplicate charges and charges for a service you could not use are refunded.
11Moderation, reports and enforcement
We do not read your private play, and no automated system judges your sessions turn by turn. What we moderate is what you publish, and what someone reports. A person at Wendfar opens a session only when absolutely required: a report that the Content Policy was broken, a legal obligation, or a support request you made about that session.
When we find a breach we may, depending on how serious it is: decline or remove published content; edit or remove a specific card or memory; restrict your ability to publish; pause the account while we look; or close the account. Sexual content involving minors, real or fictional, ends the account immediately, and where the law requires it we will report it.
We will tell you what we did and why, unless doing so would be unlawful or would put someone at risk. You can ask us to look again by writing to [email protected] within 30 days.
12Ending the agreement
By you. Stop using Wendfar, or ask us to close your account. A closed account cannot be reopened, and its data is deleted as described in the Privacy Policy.
By us. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms or the Content Policy, if we are required to by law, or if we stop offering Wendfar. Where we can, we will give you notice and a chance to put things right; for a serious breach, or where notice would defeat the purpose, we will act first and explain after.
When an account is closed, your licence to use Wendfar ends, any content you published is taken down, and copies other players have already imported remain with them. Sections of these terms that by their nature should survive (ownership, licences already granted, liability, governing law) survive.
13Our rights
Wendfar itself, meaning the software, the design, the name and mark, the prompts and memory system, the narrator personas and the official worlds and their art, belongs to us or to our licensors. You get a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use it as these terms allow, and nothing more. Official worlds you import are yours to play and edit inside Wendfar; they are not yours to republish elsewhere.
14Availability and changes to the service
Wendfar is new and changes often. We may add, change or remove features, narrators, plans and limits, and we may take the service down for maintenance or because a provider we depend on has a problem. We aim to keep it up and to keep your data safe, but we do not promise uninterrupted service, and a feature you like may go away. If we retire Wendfar entirely we will give at least 30 days’ notice by email and a way to read your sessions in that time.
15Disclaimers
Wendfar is provided as it is and as it is available. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be error-free, secure, uninterrupted, or that narrator output will be accurate, appropriate, consistent or to your taste. You choose what you write and which narrator you use; fiction on Wendfar can be intense, and you are responsible for your own experience of it.
16Limits on our liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to limit or exclude. If you are a consumer, nothing here affects your statutory rights.
Subject to that, this section caps what we can owe you. We are only responsible for loss that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms. We are not responsible for lost profit, business or opportunity, or for lost stories, worlds or other data where you could reasonably have kept your own copy. And the most we can ever be required to pay you, for everything arising out of Wendfar in any 12-month period, is the amount you paid us in that period, or £50 if you paid nothing. This is a ceiling on any claim, not a payment we make.
You are responsible for what you write and publish. If a third party brings a claim against us because your content broke the law or their rights, or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover the reasonable costs and losses that claim causes us.
17Changes to these terms
We will change these terms as Wendfar grows. When we make a change that matters to you (your rights, what you pay, what you can do) we will give at least 30 days’ notice by email to your account address or by a notice in Wendfar before it takes effect, and you can close your account before then if you do not accept it. Minor changes, such as clarifications or new features that do not reduce your rights, take effect when we post them. The date at the top is the current version’s.
18Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your own courts, and if you are a consumer in the European Union you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and may bring proceedings there.
Before anything formal, talk to us. Most problems are a misunderstanding or a bug, and [email protected] is read by people who can fix both.
19Contact
Wendfar is a company registered in the United Kingdom. For anything about these terms, billing, your account or your data, write to [email protected], or open a ticket from the Support button when signed in. Trashed worlds and cards can be restored for 30 days from your Library without asking us.
